About Swyx

TL;DR

Hey, I'm swyx! I help build great developer experiences, from documentation to dev tools to dev communities.

I am a frequent writer and speaker best known for the Learn in Public movement and recently published The Coding Career Handbook with more advice for engineers going from Junior to Senior.

P.S. "swyx" is the initials of my English and Chinese names and you can use it interchangeably with "Shawn". It is pronounced "swicks".

About

I am a currency options trader turned TMT hedge fund analyst turned developer/product manager/angel investor, primarily active in the web dev community. I grew up in Singapore 🇸🇬, but have worked mostly in the US 🇺🇸/UK 🇬🇧, most recently remotely out of New York City 🗽 working on Developer Experience for Netlify, Amazon Web Services, and now Temporal. I am currently physically in Singapore due to COVID.

I am best known for being a #LearnInPublic evangelist and my speaking/writing on React, JavaScript and the future of the Web.

swyx is passionate about Developer Tooling and Developer Communities. He is Head of Developer Experience at Temporal.io and recently published the Coding Career Handbook for Junior to Senior developer careers. In his free time he teaches React, TypeScript, Storybook and Node.js CLI's at Egghead.io, and helps run the Svelte Society community of meetups.
